Nutritional and lifestyle support for blood sugar, insulin resistance and weight management, alongside your GP, in Geelong and Drysdale.
We don’t diagnose or treat diabetes or other metabolic conditions; that stays with your doctor. Our part is the nutritional, herbal and lifestyle work that sits alongside their care.
Insulin resistance, prediabetes, fatty liver and weight that will not shift tend to travel together, and they often build quietly for years before a blood test shows them. We look at what drives them for you: food, protein and fibre, muscle and movement, sleep, stress and gut health. We read the results your GP already has, then work out the changes that fit your week, alongside your GP’s care.
When to see your doctor first. Strong thirst, passing a lot of urine, weight loss you can’t explain, blurred vision or a cut that won’t heal need your GP first. In an emergency, call 000.
Adrian is a nutritionist and naturopath and wrote our articles on insulin resistance and on the gut’s part in metabolic health. Madeline works with the stress, sleep and hormonal side, which so often sits underneath blood sugar and weight.
Both consult from our Geelong CBD and Drysdale clinics, and by telehealth.
Common questions
What is insulin resistance?
Insulin resistance is when the body’s cells respond less well to insulin, so the pancreas makes more of it to keep blood sugar in range. It can be present for years before blood sugar itself rises, which is why fasting insulin alongside glucose can tell you more than glucose alone.
Can a naturopath help with insulin resistance or prediabetes?
Not with the diagnosis or any medicine, which stay with your GP. Alongside that care we work on the foundations the evidence supports most: food quality, protein and fibre, regular movement and muscle, sleep and stress.
Do you work with weight management?
Yes, as part of the bigger picture rather than a diet. We look at food, protein, muscle, sleep, stress and blood sugar, and set changes you can keep up. We do not promise a number on the scales, and we work alongside your GP.
What tests are useful for metabolic health?
We start with the pathology you already have. Fasting glucose, HbA1c, fasting insulin, liver function and a lipid panel read together give a clearer picture than any one marker. Your GP can order most of them, and we explain what each result means for you.
I take medicine for blood sugar. Can I still see a naturopath?
Yes. Keep taking it, and please do not stop or change a prescription because of something you have read here; that decision belongs to you and your doctor. Anything we suggest is checked for interactions with what you already take.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly online or by phone, in Geelong, Drysdale or by telehealth. Bring your recent blood tests; they shape the first appointment.
